Student Government Association at Penn State Abington

About Us

The Student Government Association advocates and works toward the wants, needs, and issues of all Abington students. We are composed entirely of students, by students, for students. We take ideas from students inside and outside our student body and make them a reality. SGA is willing to collaborate with anyone who has an idea to bring benefit or enjoyment to our Abington community. We create and run events and also assist in the development and maintenance of events by other clubs/organizations. For Senate legislation to become the official policy of the student body, it must be passed by the Senate and signed by the Student Body President.

SGA Abington is composed of an executive and a legislative branch. The executive branch is led by the Student Body President and operates through a cabinet that consists of the President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary. The executive branch oversees six additional officers who serve as directors for each legislative branch’s standing committees, known as the legislative branch.

The legislative branch operates as a Senate composed of various Senators from different demographics on campus. Each senator is a member of at least one of six legislative committees: Student Affairs, Governmental Affairs, Academic Affairs, Sustainability Affairs, Educational Equity, or Marketing and Communications. To learn more about our committees, please navigate to our Directors page.

The last member of the executive branch is the University Faculty Senator, a voting liaison to the University Faculty Senate (UFS) who represents Abington students at UFS meetings. In addition, six Senators sit on the legislative branch’s appropriations committee, Student Government Appropriations Committee (SGAC). SGAC reviews and allocates funding at its discretion to student organizations.
